Well-defined cheekbones bring out the best in your other facial features. They highlight the eyes and add balance to your nose and chin. As you age, sagging facial tissue and drooping cheek fat may rob you of some of the vibrancy in your facial region, making you look older than you actually are. A mid facelift can restore a smooth, youthful appearance to your lower eyelids and cheeks so that you can look as youthful and energetic as you feel.
The most noticeable signs of aging in the mid face region occur under the eyes and around the cheeks. Your cheekbones may sink, and smile lines deepen. At Grossman Plastic Surgery, we often recommend a mid facelift to reverse the signs of aging in this part of your face. The procedure can be performed by itself or as part of a full facelift.
Am I a Candidate for a Mid Facelift?
Ideal candidates for a mid facelift have:
- Sagging mid-cheeks but few other signs of aging
- Deep lines from the corner of the nose to the corner of the mouth
- Lost definition in their jaw line
- Deep wrinkles in the cheeks
Mid Facelift Procedure
The mid facelift focuses on the central region of your cheeks, between the lower eyelid and the corner of your mouth. Denver plastic surgeons Dr. John A. Grossman and Dr. Philippe A. Capraro will make an incision in the hairline and inside the mouth. They utilize an endoscopic technique to minimize the size of the incision.
A small camera, called an endoscope, is inserted into the incision so that the doctor can view the muscles and tissue underneath your skin. They will reposition the fat pads of your cheeks to smooth and tighten your skin. The incisions are then closed up and a surgical dressing is applied to facilitate healing.
The endoscopic technique used by Dr. Grossman and Dr. Capraro results in faster recovery and minimal scarring, ensuring that you will receive the best possible outcome for your facelift procedure.
Recovery and Follow-Up Care
You may experience some numbness and mild swelling following surgery, but this will gradually subside over time. Discomfort is minimal and can be controlled with pain medication. You can shower the day after surgery.
We recommend that you engage in only mild activity for the first week after surgery. You should be able to return to work within seven to ten days, although you might want to wait a little longer to resume strenuous activity.
