We generally find that within about 2-3 weeks, most of our patients are happy and pleased with the results they see. Obviously, patient satisfaction is a complex subject.

While it is possible to go home following recovery in the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit ("recovery room"), nearly every one of our patients will spend the night in the Aftercare Facility. Following the overnight stay, most patients will go home. You should not require any special care at home. You will be able to carefully shower or bathe and wash your hair gently. The face itself, however, is not washed. In fact, it is not touched (except where instructed), to avoid skin injury. No exceptions! Do not apply cold or heat to the skin at all! These restrictions will continue for about 1 week.

For men, this includes no shaving! You may begin shaving after about 7-10 days.

There is usually not a lot of pain associated with the recovery. Still, you will have sufficient pain medicine available to you. By the end of one week, most stitches have been removed. The remainder of the immediate healing process takes about one to two weeks. Dr Grossman suggests that most people will be able to return to work at about 2 weeks, socialize, and entertain between two to three weeks after surgery.

At this point (2-3 weeks), there is still a degree of stiffness and numbness to the skin that will persist for several months. Scars will be pink for several months as well, but can easily be covered with a makeup concealer.

Post-Operative Restrictions include:

  • Shower/bathe at 1 day after surgery
  • Gently shampoo at 1-2 days after surgery
  • Blot hair dry
  • Use hair dryer without heat
  • Carefully comb with wide-toothed comb
  • No face washing or touching (unless instructed to do so) for at least 1 week after surgery
  • Soft diet for 1 week after surgery
  • Take medicines as instructed
  • No aspirin, ibuprofen, vitamin E, alcohol, or other drugs on the preop restriction list!
  • Moving/walking immediately
  • No strenuous exercise for 1-2 weeks after surgery
  • Makeup application at 1 week
