As with all surgical procedures, there is a recovery period associated with eyelid surgery. It's important to understand what to expect during this recovery period so that you can make a fully informed decision regarding whether move forward with your desired procedure.
Dr. Grossman and Dr. Capraro typically perform eyelid surgery on an outpatient basis, so you will be able to heal and recover in the comfort of your own home. The recovery time varies from patient to patient, but most people are fully healed within 2-4 weeks.
During the first week of recovery, you may experience some swelling, redness and light sensitivity near the incision area. This will gradually subside as your eyes heal. Dr. Grossman and Dr. Capraro will provide you with ointment to apply to the incisions in order to keep the area properly lubricated.
It's important to refrain from any activities that may cause your eyes to dry up during the first week or two of recovery. These may include using a computer, watching TV, reading or wearing contact lenses. You should also avoid wearing makeup until your sutures have been removed. Make sure you wear sunglasses anytime you're outside during the recovery period in order to protect your eyes from irritation.
Most patients are able to return to work about 10 days after eyelid surgery. During your follow-up visits, Dr. Grossman and Dr. Capraro will advise you as to when it is appropriate to resume all normal activities.
