As seen during Dr. Oz
Our objective in The Cosmetic Minute is to provide you with useful, accurate information about the many facets of cosmetic plastic surgery in approximately 60 seconds.
Besides the subject of how to live longer, nothing interests people more than methods to look younger and attain beauty. Radio, TV, magazines and the internet are filled with stories about how to achieve the beauty and youth goal and newer, faster, and simpler methods to get there. Let me advise you that if the procedure seems too good to be true, it probably isn’t. New techniques that are major developments don’t just happen overnight developed by an individual plastic surgeon somewhere who has an exclusive knowledge of this process. Valuable developments occur slowly, are time-tested, verified by other plastic surgeons, then peer reviewed and published in the medical literature for other surgeons to consider. You don’t want to be the first of your friends to have a “new” procedure. Remember the “Thread Lift”, a so-called major advancement in facelifting that was performed under local anesthesia, in the office, as an out-patient, fast and inexpensive? It even appeared on Oprah and got the Oprah seal of approval. Well the “Thread Lift” is gone and joined methods that didn’t produce the expected results and couldn’t stand the test of time.
I am not suggesting that new, creative, and non-surgical methods don’t have a place in the main-stream of plastic surgery. They do. Not every improvement has to involve surgery. There are many useful, mainstream non-surgical techniques in the plastic surgeon’s bag of tricks.
Just be slightly skeptical and cynical about what you read or hear through the media. And by the way, when looking for someone to counsel you about plastic surgery, choose only a physician certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery.
