What is Labiaplasty?

Friends having coffee discussing labiaplasty DenverLabiaplasty refers to a set of surgical procedures designed to reduce or augment certain areas of the vulva, specifically the labia minora, labia majora and/or the clitoral hood. The exact procedure depends on the changes you want to make.

Am I a Candidate?

If you have any concerns about your labia or other parts of the vulva, you may be a good candidate for labiaplasty. The only way to know for sure is to visit our experienced plastic surgeons for a consultation. After discussing these concerns with you, our surgeons can determine if a labiaplasty procedure can achieve the changes that you would like to make.

What Sorts of Concerns are Addressed?

The whole point of labiaplasty – and of all the services we offer – is to accomplish those goals that you want to make in order to be more comfortable with your body. It's about you. Our plastic surgeons tailor their recommendations to your unique goals. But in general, labiaplasty is well-suited to the following concerns:

  • If you feel that your inner and/or outer labia are too large, long or stretched
  • If you are concerned that the size and/or shape of your labia is interfering with exercise, physical activity, sexual activity and generally your daily life
  • If you are unsatisfied with the appearance of the labia or other aspects of the vulva

For example, elongated labia can twist or otherwise be uncomfortable when a woman is exercising. Running, yoga, stretching, strength training, etc. may cause discomfort and can be painful and may be a distraction that impedes on optimal performance. In addition to physical discomfort, a woman may feel self-conscious or find her self-esteem is affected by these types of labial issues. Sex may be uncomfortable, as may be certain types of clothing and undergarments. Labiaplasty is often an appropriate remedy for these concerns.

How Common is It?

Labiaplasty is increasingly common. In 2016, labiaplasty increased 39% compared to 2015. There were almost 13,000 procedures performed in 2016. Plastic surgeons and industry analysts expect this trend to continue in 2017.
