Why Does Breast Implant Placement Matter?

Plastic Surgeons serving Denver, Littleton, and Surrounding Areas in Colorado

A breast augmentation can be extensively customized so that it meets your goals and addresses your concerns. You’ll have a lot of decisions to make. Fortunately, the board-certified plastic surgeons at Grossman Plastic Surgery understand all the relevant details and will help you make the decisions that are right for you.

One of those decisions is breast implant placement. This is an important decision that can have significant effects on the results of your augmentation, though either choice will still allow you to have a safe, effective breast augmentation experience.

There are two placement options:

  • Sub-glandular: In this option, your implants are placed under the breast tissue but over the pectoral muscle wall. This reduces recovery time and provides more defined cleavage. It also allows for the placement of larger implants.
  • Sub-muscular: With a sub-muscular placement, we will place the implant behind the muscle wall itself. This provides the implant with firm support and reduces the risk of of capsular contracture and rippling. It also provides a more natural look and feel, and a sub-muscular placement makes mammograms much easier.

As you can see, both placement options provide significant advantages. This means your choice will be defined by your priorities and your specific medical situation.

Our plastic surgeons are experts at taking a larger view of cosmetic surgery. We know how all of your options interact and how to combine them to achieve an appearance you will love.
