Juvederm and BOTOX reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, but they work differently and for different kinds of wrinkles.
Juvederm is a dermal filler. Some wrinkles are formed because of gravity. These wrinkles are like a valley formed by folds in your skin. By filling in the valley, the wrinkle is removed. Dermal fillers like Juvederm replace lost volume leading to wrinkles.
Juvederm is effective for treating:
- Nasolabial folds
- Marionette lines
- Folds around the cheeks
BOTOX works on wrinkles formed by the repeated contraction of muscles over the years, like the lines that form between your eyebrows. BOTOX can’t restore volume, but it can relax the activity of select muscles, halting the muscle contractions that lead to wrinkles. BOTOX is often used for:
- Forehead lines
- Crow’s feet
- Upper lips
Because it is a dermal filler, Juvederm can also be used to boost the volume of the lips.
In some cases, BOTOX and Juvederm are most effective when used together. If you have wrinkles and folds formed by both volume loss and muscular activity, using both injectables together may provide optimal rejuvenation effects.
