Symmastia is a breast augmentation complication. It is also called “uniboob” or “breadloafing.” When breast augmentation is performed incorrectly, one breast pocket can be created instead of two, joining the breasts together.
Obviously this appearance complication is unsatisfactory. The appearance of conjoined breasts can be devastating.
Symmastia is unlikely when you choose a well qualified, board-certified plastic surgeon. A board-certified plastic surgeon has been tested against the highest standards in the plastic surgery field. A surgeon certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery has demonstrated the highest level of knowledge and skill in plastic surgery. A board-certified plastic surgeon will have more experience with plastic surgery and is more likely to care about your final outcome.
Your plastic surgeon should also possess experience in breast augmentation. Such a surgeon is familiar with the procedural steps and unlikely to make a mistake of this nature. Surgeons who make mistakes resulting in symmastia and other problems usually do not have experience as breast surgeons and are sometimes not plastic surgery specialists.
At Grossman Plastic Surgery, Dr. John Grossman is board certified by both the American Board of Plastic Surgery and the American Board of Surgery.
