In general, most insurance companies will not cover elective procedures that are performed primarily for cosmetic purposes. This includes the vast majority of plastic surgery procedures. However, rhinoplasty is one of the few plastic surgery procedures which may be at least partially covered by insurance under the right circumstances.
Your insurance company will most likely not cover your rhinoplasty if it is performed strictly to improve the appearance of your nose. However, most insurance companies will cover at least part of your procedure if it is deemed medically necessary.
There are several reasons a why a rhinoplasty may be performed to address a medical condition:
- To reconstruct the nose after a trauma or due to a developmental abnormality
- To correct a deviated septum that impairs the function of your nose
- To correct a misshapen nose that results in severe headaches
If your rhinoplasty is being performed to correct a medical condition, our Denver plastic surgeons will submit these reasons to your insurance and help you fill out all necessary paperwork. Our patient coordinator will walk you through this process during your initial consultation.
