Can I Still Breastfeed with Implants?

Plastic Surgeons serving Denver, Littleton, and Surrounding Areas in Colorado

Many women are able to breastfeed even after having breast augmentation. While there is no guarantee that your experience will be the same, there are certain breast augmentation options that can increase the likelihood of your ability to breastfeed in the future.

Breast Augmentation Options

The first thing to consider if you plan on breastfeeding in the future is your breast augmentation incision location. If you expect that you may wish to breastfeed in the future, having your incisions placed either below the breast or in the armpit will help protect the nerve endings in your nipple and decrease your risk for reduced nipple sensitivity.

Another consideration will be breast implant placement. Having your breast implants placed underneath the muscles in your chest will prevent them from applying pressure on your milk ducts and decreases your chances of interrupting proper milk production and flow.

Every care is taken by our board-certified Denver breast surgeons to minimize complications and ensure your breasts remain fully functional after surgery. We cannot guarantee you will be able to breastfeed following breast augmentation. If this is a consideration for you, please bring it to the attention of Dr. Grossman or Dr. Capraro during your consultation to allow them to make all appropriate surgical considerations.
