Breast augmentation benefits in DenverAny decision to undergo a plastic surgery procedure is a significant decision. At Grossman Plastic Surgery, our board-certified plastic surgeons want you to feel informed and confident about any choice you make related to breast augmentation.

Below, we've listed ten things we think you might like to know about the procedure, but we encourage you to also schedule a consultation with one of our plastic surgeons in Denver. To do so, please call our team at 866-221-9665.

1. Breast implants may be placed above or below your chest muscle. When placed under the muscle, the breast implant is concealed and supported well. Some women prefer under-the-muscle placement for an optimally natural look and feel, as the breast tissue and muscle is on top of the implant. Placement above the muscle is also a good option for many women. Over-the-muscle placement often provides more of a lifting effect, and a larger breast implant can be used. Above-muscle placement also allows for optimal control over the cleavage created.

2. Breast augmentation works with what you have currently. Before thinking too much about implant size, shape and profile, visit an experienced plastic surgeon for an one-on-one assessment. The plastic surgeon will examine your current breast size, chest width and other measurements, and then let you know which breast implants are an option for you. Certain sizes, shapes and profiles will work for placement in your breasts.

3. Women like the way they look clothed following breast augmentation. Breast augmentation is not just about the way the body looks nude. In fact, many women decide to undergo breast augmentation because of the way they want to look in clothes. Feeling bad about the way you look in an outfit can set you up for a day of rattled confidence. When you feel great about how you look, you can move through your day confidently.

4. Breast enlargement can enhance all body proportions. One of the great things about breast augmentation is that it can improve all aspects of your body proportions, not only the size of your chest. Your augmented breasts are balanced with the shape and contours of your entire body, creating an aesthetically pleasing, feminine shape.

5. There are multiple incision options. Breast implants will be implanted via one of three incisions:

  • The inframammary incision, which extends along the breast crease between your chest and breast
  • The peri-areolar incision, which creates a circular incision around the perimeter of the areola
  • The transaxillary incision, which makes an incision within your armpit

The  right incision depends on the size and type of implant used, your preferences, and the size and shape of your breasts currently.

6. Studies show high rates of satisfaction. Women seem to be happy with the results of their breast augmentations. One notable study from 2013 found 98% of women who underwent the procedure said the results met or exceeded their expectations.1 Over 90% also reported improved self-esteem and 64% reported an improved quality of life.

7. Results are long-lasting. Breast augmentation provides long-term results. Your breasts will still change as you age: You can't stop the effects of gravity and the ultimate sagging of your breasts. The implants themselves are not considered lifetime devices, and most women have them for several years or longer before a replacement is necessary. If you gain weight or become pregnant, the accompanying physical changes may affect your breast augmentation results.

8. A lift can often be combined with enlargement. Some women want to lift the position of sagging breasts, but also want to increase breast size. This is possible with a combined procedure. A breast lift on its own does not increase size, in fact it tends to decrease size. And an augmentation on its own does not provide significant lifting of sagging tissue.

9. Only an experienced breast surgeon can determine your candidacy. Even with all the information you have gathered about breast augmentation, a consultation with a plastic surgeon is necessary if you want to know if you are a good candidate. An experienced, caring plastic surgeon will listen to your goals and what you would like to change, and then describe the surgical options for achieving those goals.

10. You should consider choosing a board-certified plastic surgeon. Your next step is to choose a surgeon. Board-certified plastic surgeons have undergone rigorous training and education, and then passed an in-depth examination. This exam tests their plastic surgery knowledge and evaluates their skill.
